When you travel the world, some places surprise you with their beauty — and others awaken something deeper. They pull you in, stir your senses, and remind you why life tastes better when you live it fully.
Welcome to Mercado Municipal Paulistano, lovingly known as Mercadão, and its vibrant counterpart, the Kinjo Yamato Market. Nestled in the historic center of São Paulo, these two living icons are more than markets — they are a celebration of everything that makes Brazil unique: flavor, rhythm, diversity, and soul.
Now, during the month of November 2025, something extraordinary is happening.
For the first time, Mercado SP, in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, is transforming both markets into a stage — with 12 free artistic attractions, every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, at 11 AM and 3 PM.
Imagine walking through corridors filled with exotic aromas and colorful stalls, and suddenly the air comes alive — a violin starts weaving melodies of hope, a samba-reggae drum beats like a heartbeat, and a joyful crowd begins to dance.
This isn’t just a visit. It’s an experience of life itself.
The Soul of the City, Served Daily
São Paulo has always been a city that never sleeps — a crossroads of people, stories, and dreams. And at its heart lies the Mercadão, born in 1933, built by visionary architect Felisberto Ranzini, and lovingly restored to become one of the most iconic destinations in all of Brazil.
Under its majestic stained-glass windows — true works of art by Conrado Sorgenicht Filho — you’ll find not only the finest flavors of Brazilian cuisine but also the beating heart of its people.
From the world-famous mortadella sandwich to the most delicate tropical fruits, each vendor tells a story of tradition passed through generations. Every bite feels like home, every aroma carries the warmth of a thousand kitchens.
Now, add live music, laughter, and the rhythm of Brazil — and you’ll understand why this isn’t just a market. It’s a cultural movement wrapped in flavor.
Tradition Meets Art: November Comes Alive
In this special cultural program, Mercadão and Kinjo Yamato are not just hosting events — they’re opening their doors to the world.
The lineup is breathtaking:
- Nov 14 – Brass & Boots: tuba and flute meet the rhythmic spirit of South Africa’s gumboot dance.
- Nov 15 – Izandra Machado: a violinist rewriting tradition with an album that blends trap, pagodão, milonga, and neosoul — a true musical revolution.
- Nov 16 – Trio da Lua: forró pé de serra, poetry, and spontaneous quadrilha dances that celebrate the soul of the Northeast.
- Nov 21 – Regional Violão Brejeiro: a heartfelt roda de choro uniting past and present.
- Nov 22 – Chorinho do Pinhão: a tribute to Brazilian masters like Pixinguinha, Hamilton de Holanda, and other icons of choro.
- Nov 23 – Bloco Afro É di Santo: a samba-reggae procession from M’Boi Mirim — percussion, color, and joy from São Paulo’s south side.
- Nov 28 – Quarteto Fora de Contexto: bold instrumental experiments fusing choro, baião, and forró.
- Nov 29 – Suburbanos do Choro: musicians from the city’s outskirts celebrating independence through sound.
- Nov 30 – Cortejo Natalino: the grand finale — an itinerant Christmas parade blending MPB, jazz, and funk in a festival of light and rhythm.
Every performance is free, open to all, and designed to connect you with the spirit of São Paulo — spontaneous, inclusive, and full of energy.
As Aldo Bonametti, CEO of Mercado SP, says:
“More than a gastronomic and tourist center, the Mercadão is a space of culture, belonging, and connection. By promoting a diverse and accessible artistic program in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, we reaffirm our commitment to culture as a bridge to the city’s soul.”
